2 GEW 1888 COMMISSION BOLT ACTION RIFLES.
1) LOEWE. Cal. 8x57mm Mauser S bore. S# 780U. Bbl. 29" w/ shroud. Barleycorn front sight w/ 2,000m tangent leaf rear sight. Front receiver ring has "S" bore marking over "Loewe Berlin / 1891". Bbl. & receiver have matching numbers. Bolt has non matching "9871". Floorplate & trigger guard have non matching "8625V". Rear bbl. band numbered "51R.R.4173". Front band marked "16.K.7". Buttplate marked "12 / S'. Right side of stock butt has 2 German proofs. 2 Band fastened walnut stock w/ sling swivels, right side bayonet lug & cleaning rod. CONDITION: exterior surfaces has mottled gray brown appearance showing scattered areas of pitting & corrosion. Bbl. shroud has lg. dent between front band & rear sight. Stock has a dark worn appearance w/ numerous dents, scratches, marks & spots of staining. Bore is generally bright retaining lightly worn rifling. (01-18802/DS). 2) UNMARKED. Cal. 8x57mm Mauser J bore. S# 5996T. Bbl. 29" w/ shroud. Barleycorn front sight & tangent leaf rear sight missing slide. Left side of action marked "GEW 88". Receiver ring has no markings. Bolt numbered "5996T". Trigger guard & floorplate assembly marked "66". Rear band marked "52". Front band marked "64". 2 Band walnut stock w/ sling swivels, right side bayonet lug & cleaning rod. CONDITION: metal has mottled gray brown appearance w/ light pitting. Shroud shows several dents. Stock has age darkened heavily worn appearance w/ numerous dents, gouges & marks having sm. chips in several places. Lower buttplate screw & front band screw are missing. Functioning action. Pitted bore retaining partially visible rifling. (01-18809/DS). BOTH ANTIQUE. $250-400.
