RARE 1954 Weatherby South Gate Mauser .220 ROCKET Bolt Action Rifle Custom Engraved by Paul Dubois
Manufactured in 1954. Features a 24" blued sightless barrel. FN Supreme Mauser action stamped Weatherby South Gate, CA. Two position Mauser manual safety. Action is drilled and tapped with brass screws. Standard Mauser left side bolt release with bottom knurled knob. Coin finished trigger guard and floorplate with floral and scroll engraving surrounded with gold inlaid borders. Center of the floorplate features an engraved Impala bust and appears to be signed "PB" by Paul Dubois. Stock is a single piece right hand Monte Carlo walnut with contrasting ebony forearm tip and pistol grip cap. Pistol grip cap has a white diamond inlay. Right and left side below the receiver features a tri-wood stretched shield shape inlay of rosewood, ebony and birch. Right side of butt stock has an ebony and leaping Impala white birch inlay. Both pistol grip and forearm feature hand checkering with a wide carved border. Front and rear sling studs. butt stock fitted with black and white line factory ventilated recoil pad. Early, American made Weatherby's are highly sought after and this is an excellent example! LOP: 13-3/8". CALIBER: 220 ROCKET. S/N: 2333. FFL STATUS: Curio & Relic.
CONDITION
Retains 85% original finish with light wear spots on the barrel, and a couple of faint small scratches. Light haze on the nickel action. Floorplate and trigger guard show light handling marks only. Stock is in 95% condition showing handling wear only. Great bore and mechanics.
