Rare Engraved Belgium Browning Graded 1914 Model A Semi-Automatic Rifle
Made in Herstal, Belgium by Browning, Circa 1950, and known as the 1914 Model A. This rifle is the predecessor to the SA semi-automatic introduced in 1956 in the U.S. by Browning and previously made by Remington under Browning Patents as the Model 24. Although not rare outside of the U.S. examples seen in the U.S. are generally G.I. "PX' purchases or war trophies. This particular gun features a 19-1/4" blued round fluid steel barrel with bead pedestal front sight and stamped notch rear sight with Browning F.N. address and "172137" serial number stamped on underside of barrel. Barrel is in a takedown configuration in 22 Long Rifle caliber. Satin finish frame with deep chisel engraving, most likely done by Felix Funken. Engraving features pattern similar to Grade III post war gun with floral and prairie dog scene on right and floral and bear scene on left with top having floral scene with an unknown mark, possibly Felix Funken. Action has a blued finish, button safety, and gold washed trigger. Plain walnut round knob pistol grip stock with Model "A" loading port in front of comb and a blued steel butt plate and loading tube. Matching walnut splinter forearm with single screw attachment. A hard to find rifle. LOP: 13-3/4". DAC: 1-3/16". DAH: 2-5/8". CALIBER: 22LR. S/N: 172137. FFL STATUS: Curio & Relic.
CONDITION
Overall 98% plus as refinished with small handling marks, sharp engraving, and action finish with trigger showing bright gold-wash finish. Good bore and mechanics.
