Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 2500o. Bbl. 5". Mfg. w/out dates; eagle 88 proofs on bbl. & frame. Chrome plated w/ chisel engraving having German oak leaf & acorn design. Dark background along w/ areas of traditional German waffle pattern. Checkered walnut aftermarket grips having satin finish w/ slight thumbrest for RH use. Matching # bbl. & blued locking block. Slide markings replaced w/ engraving but firing pin cover retains eagle 359 proof as usually used on Walther models; faint "cyq" remains on left side of slide w/in banner engraving. Front strap of frame has waffle pattern w/ light scroll at top & floral image at bottom. Top of bbl. at mid section of rear portion has unknown script letter(s) plus "109-6". Upper sides of slide have waffle pattern as does front band. Also having open area w/ "352". Firing pin cover script marked w/ "D Rd E Km E. Su B". Left side of slide has oak leaves & acorns w/ eagle holding party symbol at front. Arched banner on left side has "Luftwaffe Major Erich Hartmann" who was famous German Ace who served in both wars; captured by Soviets during WWI & upon release served in WWII again for Germany. Right side banner surrounded by more oak leaf & acorn engraving has "Grupperkommandeur JG 52" which translates to group commander plus JG indicates hunter group. Hartmann retired as a Major General. MAGS: 2 very good plated 8 rd.; 1 factory marked "P.38v" w/ eagle 135 proof. 2nd mag. similar appearing aftermarket. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: very attractive walnut glass topped case w/ shadow line cutout for pistol & spare mag. having sprayed on blue velvet like material; brass hardware. Blacksmith book about P38 pistols. CONDITION: very good to near excellent appearance w/ like conditioned bore having faint signs of wear. Proper dbl. action functioning, but hammer sticks in rearward position on single action; likely caused by decreased tolerances after plating. (21-1463/NW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
